The National Museum of History is preserving about 200,000 objects and materials of Vietnamese cultural history, including many national treasures. At present, the Museum is maintaining two fixed display systems at two establishments: No. 1 Trang Tien displays Vietnamese history from Prehistory to the end of the Nguyen dynasty (1945); No 216 Tran Quang Khai Street displays the history of Viet Nam from the mid 19th century to the present.
From the prehistoric period to 1945, there are nearly 110,000 documents, relics, antiques and 19 national treasures with top grade rare collections compared to the same type of museums in the country and region. The history of Viet Nam from the middle of the 19th century until now has nearly 80,000 documents and objects about the history of the Vietnamese revolution, the Communist Party of Viet Nam, about President Ho Chi Minh and the leaders of Party through the ages.
The building at No. 1 Trang Tien was built in 1929, designed as a work of art, a unique architectural work with a harmonious combination of oriental architecture style with beautiful West architecture. The spacious museum with its old trees gives the shade, which is suitable for visitors to enjoy the outdoors in the museum. Recently, the 8th National Tourism Artistic Picture Exhibition "I love Viet Nam" hosted by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism took place on the campus of the museum, attracting a large number of tourists both domestically and internationally, who come from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea... to enjoy. This shows that the connection between the museum and tourism activities has been meeting the tastes of visitors, contributing to create tourist products to attract international visitors come and stay in Ha Noi longer.
National Museum of History has focused on promoting and organizing successfully dozens of thematic exhibitions with deep, attractive contents that are recognized, appreciated and positively influenced by society. At present, the Museum has some typical exhibitions such as: "Vietnamese archaeological treasures", "Ceramic porcelains discovered in Vietnam's sea", "Literature and Art during the war (1945 - 1954) "; Besides, with many exhibits in foreign countries, the museum also gradually affirmed, raised the role, position and brand as well as contributed to introduce and promote historical heritage, culture, image of the country, people of Viet Nam to the world, enhanced national prestige in the international arena.
During the industrial revolution 4.0, the use of new technology is indispensable for the operation of the museum. In addition to step-by-step implementation of the 2013 automated narrative system, the National History Museum takes the lead in building a virtual 3D museum that helps visitors interact more deeply and actively with history, aiming to the public that have not visit to the museum, young people often use the internet.
