Bai Tu Long National Park is part of Bai Tu Long Bay Area in Van Don District, Quang Ninh, nearly 200km east away from Hanoi. Spanning 15,783ha in total, of which forest and forest land make up 6,125ha with over 40 islands of all sizes and 9,650ha of seawater, lagoons and inland swamps.
The park boasts a maritime ecology in which seawater makes up two thirds of the national park and helps preserve the genes of lots of endangered species, even many Red List ones.
Alongside its beautiful natural scenes, Bai Tu Long National Park, given its diverse terrains, geology and geography, is also one of the national parks with high value biodiversity values and three basic ecological forms: mainland forests, submerged wetlands and sea, whose area is large enough for floras and faunas of forests and the sea to proliferate and inhabit.
The geological structure of Bai Tu Long National Park includes earth islands sandwiched between rocky ones that feature limestone mountains encircling vast valleys, which altogether form vales and glens as the safe habitat of various floral and faunal species.
Bai Tu Long National Park is largely unspoiled and naturally surprising thanks to its stretchy islands along the estuaries and undulating tropical jungles that lushly forest mountains and race to the infinity of green. Floating rocky islands on the sea take different forms and shapes that change treacherously, not to mention giant caverns in limestone mountains such as Soi Nhu or Cai De… In particular, Cai De cave is the largest connected cave in Ha Long – Bai Tu Long, which gets through the mountain and stretches 300m. Soi Nhu cave is famous for discoveries of ancient Vietnamese settlers around 14,000 years ago and vestiges of the once robust Van Don Trading Harbor.
Also, part of Bai Tu Long National Park is Minh Chau commune, which boasts the naturally fine sandy beach of around 2km, and regarded as one of the best beaches of the Gulf of Tonkin. Near the beach lies a primordial jamblon forest spanning around 14ha, an ideal ecological destination for visitors.
The sandy and rocky tidal ecology in such a rustic and unspoiled form is also filled with surprises and delights. It is the habitat of countless maritime species, most notably mollusks, which endow Van Don a lot of endemic specialties to enchant any visitors.
Bai Tu Long National Park is indeed a charming ecological tourist hotspot for anyone inside and outside the country, and also a perfect place for getaway into the nature to explore and admire the almightiness of our creator.
