Of the 52 destinations ranked by the New York Times, only the Red River Delta in Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia. At the top of this list is Chioggia (Italy). Within Asia, some destinations are also on the list, such as Uttarakhand (India) and Kyoto (Japan).
Regarding the Red River Delta, the New York Times commented that after COVID-19, travelers tend to choose Vietnam's vibrant cities and world-famous beaches. However, besides these familiar places, visitors should also head to the North of Vietnam to visit and explore the traditional villages of the Red River Delta. Here, visitors are immersed in the cultural area of the ancient lifestyle or visit villages located on both sides of the Cau river, enjoying their songs, one of the Intangible Cultural Heritages recognized by UNESCO.
According to the New York Times, for the longest time, people on both sides of the Cau river in the Red River Delta have been singing Quan Ho, a reciprocal way of singing the rhythm of love between young lovers, and this tradition has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible heritage. Currently, dozens of ancient villages in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang still preserve this unique type of folk song with traditional cultural practices combined with tourism development. Many Hanoi tourism companies often organize tours to take visitors to discover ancient villages, Buddhist temples, craft villages, as well as river tourism... to contribute to preserving history.
The Red River Delta consists of 10 provinces and cities: Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh. The region is gifted with natural resources and qualifies to be a major tourist center in the country.
The Red River Delta possesses many beautiful landscapes and national parks such as Ba Vi, Tam Dao, Cat Ba, Cuc Phuong, Xuan Thuy. There are famous scenic tourist areas such as Ha Long bay, Bai Tu Long, Van Don. Moreover, being considered as the "cradle" of the Vietnamese people, this is also an ancient land with many legends and historical relics associated with Vietnamese spirituality, such as the Hoa Lu ancient capital area, the Tran relic site, the Yen Tu relic site, and many traditional villages with tangible and intangible cultural values associated with the rice tradition that has been loved by friends from all around the world.
The publication of the list of 52 top tourist destinations in 2022 is not only meaningful for promoting and introducing the destination but also contributes to solving the problems of overcrowding in tourism and the consequences after the COVID-19 pandemic.
